Today was Australia Zoo day. Picked up by the tour bus at our hotel, it was about an hours drive up the Sunshine Coast just past the town of Beerwah. Australia Zoo is a 700-acre zoo owned by Terri Irwin, who became the new owner of the zoo following Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” Irwin’s accidental death from a stingray. We saw a wide variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles throughout the park in the Africa, Tiger Temple, Elephantasia, Rainforest Aviary, Bindi's Island, Robert's Reptile House and other exhibits. > click picture to enlarge We were also able to take in the crocodile feedings in the Mount Franklin Crocoseum' stadium. Very entertaining. click picture to enlarge Continuing on after the feedings, we took in the remainder of the park. click picture to enlarge After 6 hours of wandering the park on our own, we finally boarded the bus for home at 3:00 pm. It was a long ride home as we were both beat from the heat of the day and all the walking. Once back in our air-conditioned hotel room, it was feet up and some R&R before dinner. Our plans for the evening were dinner at the Kitchen at Treasury restaurant in The Treasury Building which also houses a hotel, 5 other restaurants, 5 bars, a nightclub and a casino. click picture to enlarge Unfortunately, dinner was a little underwhelming and definitely overpriced. Oh well, into the casino for an hour or so, then back to the hotel and off to bed. |
